Catalytic converter theft is on the rise and is a major problem in many areas. Replacing stolen converters is very expensive and there's always additional damage to the exhaust system to add to the cost of the repair. The converters are easily stolen by simply cutting the exhaust pipes before and after the converter using a cordless sawzall. Take a quick look under your Toyota Tundra and you'll see how easy it is for a thief to reach and remove your truck's catalytic converters in an amazingly short period of time.
Our first gen Toyota Tundra Cat Guards are designed to prevent access to the converters. The idea is to keep a would-be thief from being able to easily cut the exhaust pipes. The longer it takes remove them, the more likely the thief won't bother and will move on to the next vehicle.
Mounted to our TA-1002 Transmission Skid Plate using carriage bolts, they can't be easily unbolted and make it much more difficult to reach the converters. They are made from laser-cut 1/8" thick steel that is CNC folded for consistent quality and fit. Then they're finished in an environmentally-friendly, and durable, black powder coating.
To use our Cat Guards, you will need one of our TA-1002 Transmission Skid Plates to mount them to. Our transmission skid plates now include mounting holes for the Cat Guards. However, if you've already got one of our older Transmission Skid Plates, you'll need to drill the mounting holes for the Cat Guards. There are three per side and you can use the Cat Guard as a template to locate the holes.
Our Toyota Tundra Cat Guards are designed to prevent a would-be thief from walking away with your truck's expensive catalytic converters.
These catalytic converter guards will not fit with long tube, aftermarket headers.

Since 1999 Skid Row has been providing the offroad community with top quality skid plates and innovative accessories, such as our Top Props. Proudly made in South Central Pennsylvania, we are still a very small, employee-owned, company and we remain dedicated to manufacturing here in the United States as we know it benefits our country and our local community.
By buying Made in USA products 100% of your money goes to supporting businesses right here in the United States. When you purchase products that are made overseas, only a percentage of that money stays here. Why is that important? It’s because that money gets used to pay employees, such as yourself, who use it to provide for their families and to support their communities. When there’s less money to go around, that cycle becomes more and more difficult.
When you purchase products from Skid Row, you are actually supporting several other small, local companies here in South Central Pennsylvania as well. For example, we don’t manufacture custom boxes, so we have another local company make them for us. We also do not have the facilities to electroplate our parts. So yet another local company does that for us. There are over a dozen companies that we work with, and that you help support, when you purchase our products. In addition, we also support our local offroad parks that provide you, our customers, with fun, interesting, and legal places to play offroad.
When you Buy American you support our country’s economy in more ways than you may realize. American manufacturing companies rely on consumers, both here and abroad, buying American-made products. Yes, we do live in a global economy, but there needs to be balance, and we all know that isn’t the case at this time. Making the effort to buy products that are Made in USA really does help.
So, please, do a little research before you buy. If the part you’re looking at isn’t specifically labelled as Made in USA, it probably isn’t. Yes, you may end up paying a little more, but odds are that you’ll also be getting a better quality product instead of a cheap, knock-off..... and that usually means you’ll be spending less in the long run.
We are committed to making quality products here in the United States that let you enjoy your vehicle more whether it’s on the street or on a trail. We share your passion and always enjoy seeing our customers out having fun with our products. Please stop us to say Hello if you see us out wheeling our Jeeps. We'd love to meet you. Happy trails!
Skid Row Offroad™ products are powder coated to provide a durable, long lasting, and environmentally friendly finish!
|We know that many people are curious about why we use powder coating instead of paint. Here's why...|
|As an environmentally conscious company there are several advantages that powder coating has over conventional liquid (paint) coatings.
Our Powder Coating Process
In order to provide the best quality, longest lasting finish possible, our products go through a multi-stage coating process that is literally state-of-the-art!
Removing Rust and Scale
For the powder to properly adhere to the steel substrate, the steel must be completely free of contaminants such as oil, rust, weld scale, and mill scale. These contaminants must be thoroughly removed or the finish will not stick to the part for long. Cast steel shot or steel grit is used to clean and prepare the surface before coating. The blasting media is recycled during the process and helps the environment by producing less landfill.
After the part is free of rust and scale, it is pre-treated with an alkaline cleaner to remove oil and/or foreign materials. Once it is through the cleaning stage, the part is rinsed to remove any excess cleaner. An iron phosphate stage comes next and is used to etch the steel and apply a layer of crystals on the surface of the material. This is done to provide excellent adhesion. After the iron phosphate, the part is rinsed and dried. The pretreatment stage is an often neglected part of the coating process that some manufacturers think is unnecessary. However, to achieve optimal rust prevention and years of rust-free use it is absolutely necessary.
Some Skid Row Offroad products, such as our bumpers and mirror brackets, are treated with a special primer to maximize product life. This primer is a zinc-rich epoxy coating that ensures a long lasting finish. The zinc prevents further rusting if the finish is scratched all the way down to the base material.
Our parts are loaded onto a conveyor system and slowly pass through automatic spray guns that apply a mist of fine, electrically-charged, powder all over the product. Inside corners and other areas that are hard to reach are manually sprayed with powder for complete coverage. Powder that does not stick to the parts is recaptured by a powder re-collection system. The entire process of powder coating is environmentally friendly.
Once the parts are thoroughly and evenly covered with powder, they enter large, high-powered ovens to cure. The parts take approximately 15 minutes to pass through the ovens. With temperatures of about 400 degrees Fahrenheit, the powder is completely cured when the parts come through the other end. They are then allowed to air cool before being unloaded from the conveyor line to be packaged.
|Here are some answers to questions we hear often....|
Q: What is Powder coating?
A: Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish.
Q: Is it Environmentally Friendly??
A: Powder coating is a much more environmentally friendly process than wet paint systems or plating. Industrial painting uses harmful solvents and sometimes even poisonous ingredients. Industrial chrome processes use heavy metals that find their way into water supplies. Powder coating uses neither harmful solvents or heavy metals even VOC emission problems are eliminated.
Q: Is Powder Coating Durable?
A: Powder Coatings resist cracking and peeling and are extremely abrasion, corrosion and chemical resistant. The performance characteristics of powder coating match or exceed the characteristics achieved from conventional solvent-based coatings.
Q: Is Powder Coating better than liquid paint?
A: Yes, powder coating is thicker 3-4 mils and paint is typically 1-2 mils. The thickness of the powder coating makes powder coating more resistant to scratches and nicks. Powder coating is versatile and can be used on springs without cracking the coating. You can't do that with paint!
Q: Why Powder Coat?
A: Quality Powder coating is cost effective and superior to most liquid coatings for: Chip Resistance, Corrosion Resistance, Chemical Resistance, Abrasion Resistance, Impact Resistance, Ultraviolet Resistance, Adhesion, All Weather Durability
